Bilbao and San Sebastian food tour

In early August 2022 while we were still in Warsaw, our daughter Eva flew in from New York to join us. On August 13th, the three of us flew to Bilbao, Basque Country, Spain where we were joined by Marysia.

On the first night in Bilbao, we visited and ate at the famous Food Market, La Ribera. La Ribera Market is recognized by the Guinness World Book of Records as the largest covered food market in the world! Its food court has many stalls with a huge selection of small dishes called pintxos in Basque.

To finish off our lovely stay in Bilbao, we had dinner at the Michelin-starred restaurant, ‘Mina‘. It was a great fixed menu meal with very good and attentive service.

The next leg of our food tour was San Sebastian which was just a short drive from Bilbao. San Sebastian, Bilbao, and the surrounding areas are global epicenters of fine dining. They offer one of the highest densities of Michelin-starred restaurants per capita in the world!

In San Sebastian, we had a dinner at Dani López’s ‘Kokotxa‘, a one Michelin restaurant. It turned out to be a great place and well-worth our trip!

After our short but great food trip to Spain, we returned back to Warsaw . After just a few short days, we started to make our way back to our boat in Colón, Panama.

First stop: Lisbon, just for a day.

Lunch at Lisbon’s Timeout Market, a must for our visit in town!

We had just one night in Lisbon, and we had to make a dinner stop at our favorite, ‘Bairrices‘! This place serves a fixed menu which consists of a great variety of Portuguese petiscos, small plate dishes. There’s no better way to taste a panorama of Portuguese original cuisine.

…and then next we flew to New York just in time for the 2022 US Open.

And now back to Shelter Bay Marina, Colón, Panama…
