'Jemm of the Sea II' Sailing Blog

Postcards from Gibraltar.

Gibraltar, one of the two Pillars of Hercules for Greeks, or the End of the World for Romans. Now it’s a vibrant EU economy, and one of the very few expanding, for that matter. Most of the British military is gone, mainly leaving a contingent to fight the flow of illegal immigrants from Maghreb and Islamic terrorist trying to slip through among them.

Now it is mainly a retirement place for some Brit expats and very busy tourist attraction with many cruise ships mooring here to stay for a few days.

Climate seems to be great, very warm, sunny but dry.

Biggest problem being, with all this influx of British expats, finite amount of land suitable for development and lack of source of fresh water. Some land hes been reclaimed from the sea, like the area around the Queensway Quay Marin where we’re currently docking. As for the fresh water, its main source is desalination process and with some addition of rain water being directed and stored in caves located through out the Rock.
