After two day work I finally replaced my stinky 55A stock Hitachi alternator with a powerful 150A Balmar 6-series paired with MC-614 external smart regulator. It came with the Balmar own AltMount serpentine belt conversion kit as a single V-belt could not possibly run this high output alternator. Even though it was specifically fabricated for my Yanmar 4JH2-TE inboard engine it was not a perfect match. For some reason all three, crank, water pump and alternator, pulleys were misaligned. With some help form the local metal shop I was able to get a set of spacer to get this set working.
After mounting all devices, running wiring and programming the regulator, Digital Duo Charge (for split charging of two battery banks, house and engine) and ‘Smartgauge’ monitoring system it looks as everything is working all right.
Now, next time my batteries are for replacement I should be able to upgrade my 400Ah house bank to 600Ah.
